I have two sub-adult females and a few males right now. I did not feed the males much. The Carolina Mantids need to eat often. I keep them at around 80 degrees. They need to be fed a little everyday. If fed just a little every day and then stopped for two days or so they starve to death. A little I mean a L3 S. lateralis to the pre-sub Stagmomantis or younger. I fed the two females more than the males. The females too seem to need to eat often. They get skinny quickly. I have not been misting them. They are all brownish. When they were younger there were ones with a lot of green. Less food slows down the growth of mantises.
One of the males seem to have skipped a molt. He is L5 or L6 at sub-adult, sorry I got mixed up and forgot his molts. I am pretty sure he is L6. Molting from L3 to L4 he suddenly got huge. Something like two molts ahead of the others. At L3 he was the same as the others. Sorry, I lost count on the other normal males and the females.
I am wondering if heat makes more males and cold makes more females...
