They have multiplied! I have very many now. It seems like the genus these roaches are in is Shelfordella and not Blatta. I guess they used to be in the genus Blatta but are now Shelfordella lateralis.

I wrote this in 11/24/2012. Okay, the mites are gone (or most of them) and many did live. I am keeping them with the Shelfordella lateralis now (the S. lateralis seemed to have eaten all the mites LOL!). I wrote this in 11/24/2012. I caught a big brown adult female Tenodera sinensis recently but I let it go casually by leaving it outside. I thought it would stay and I was going to feed it but the night I caught it she went away. She was bigger than the other two adult females I had, I guess she was 87 or 88mm long (sorry I did not measure her). She was much healthier than the other two I raised from young nymphs. I must be doing something wrong with my mantids. I wrote this in 11/24/2012. I have caught more Carolina Mantids but I was unlucky because they died before laying an ootheca except one that died after laying an ootheca that I have outside right now and I hope it hatches. I have pictures but like in the Deroplatys lobata post I am not exactly sure where they are.... I wrote this in 11/24/2012. The three oothecae did not hatch and I think they are dead because it seems like Blue Flash ooths are supposed to hatch much earlier than this. It is frustrating! ); I do not have any other Sphodromantis sp. "Blue Flash" right now. I do want to get more mantids in the future. I wrote this on 11/24/2012. I have not written anything here in a while. Most of my Deroplatys lobata died :(. Two males did live. I sent them both to the person I got them from but the adult male I sent him would not mate! Maybe he did (I did not write to him so I do not know much). The other male was still pre-sub-adult or close to that. I took pictures of them but I do not know where they are but they are somewhere on my computer. When I find them I will put them here. I wrote this in 07/09/2012. I am very frustrated! They keep eating each other and their eggs so I have to get the egg cases out quickly! I am feeding them a lot of burger meat but they seem to like each other a lot more. I should read about Red Runners. I wrote this in 07/09/2012. Note: They are fine. Several lived, about 8 or so. I have got grain mite like mites! These mites were just like grain mites until they suddenly started sticking to the roaches and killing them. All will probably die. One adult female gave birth to babies but they have mites so they will probably die. I wrote this in 07/09/2012. My adult female died I think 13 days ago and I think she laid a tiny ootheca 12 days ago (I do not count the days sorry). She would not eat. She slowly got worse. At first she would take a long time to eat then she would strike just about half way and would not chew. So she starved. I wrote this in 07/09/2012. It is hard for me to feed them. They might die. One molted to L4 and is a female. Her leafy thing is very different from before. I can see 6 segments but I could see 8 when she was L3. All of them at L3 I could see 8 segments so I cannot sex them at L3 that way. On mantidforum a person said they are different from each other in the tip of their abdomen. I hope they do well. |
